The contractor has run into an unexpected problem. When pumping the grout down the hole, it is not coming back up the hole as expected. This happened because the soil has voids in it that are letting the grout disperse away from the hole. This causes the fear that the soil/anchor bond will not be strong enough.
After meetings yesterday with the geotech engineer it was decided to take another approach using a rotor hammerer type drill to make larger holes. A two step grouting process will be used to make a stronger bond. The new process requires a large compressor to drive the drill, an expenses that no one anticipated.
Formal dedication of the arch took place at 6:30 pm on May 7, 2010.
