This image is the original concept drawing by Rip Caswell that started the arch project.  Notice how the unscaled drawing depicts an arch that is much smaller than the final product.  I have included the picture to show how a small idea could result in the beautiful artwork that became the Troutdale Centennial Arch.  It also testifies to why the final design cost more, as the scope of the project was much greater than initially conceived..

Troutdale Centennial Arch Blog. This Blog is intended to document in words and pictures the construction of Troutdale's Centennial Arch. I plan to visit the site often and take pictures as the work progresses. I am doing this for those people that might find the construction process interesting; however do not expect it to be too technical. As the arch is supposed to last at least 100 years, it will be interesting to see if this blog lasts that long. If it does, it may be useful background for those people that open the time capsule a century from now. The first picture was taken on 11/20/2009
Note: The blueprint can be viewed in more detail by clicking on it. The picture of the arch was created from a rendering drawn by the architect and photo shopped by an employee of the city. The actual location of the arch is about 50 yards west of the location shown in the picture.
