Today the anchors are being strength tested by Foster Gambee, the geotechnical engineer. The steel bolt in the center of the picture is one of the four anchors on the south side. The hydraulic jack is pumped to a load of 30,000 pounds. The small gauge near the nut records any movement of the anchor. This test is critical because these anchors have the primary function of keeping the monument upright when the icy east wind roars.
Formal dedication of the arch took place at 6:30 pm on May 7, 2010.
